South Africa’s next rising star in motorsport is Cayden Robert, a 15-year-old racer with big dreams and considerable talent to make it happen!
South Africa (24 October 2023) – Cayden Robert is a 15-year-old motorsport hopeful with his heart set on representing South Africa internationally. We got the chance to chat with this up-and-coming “rookie” to learn more about what his plans for the future are.
He is currently racing with the King Price Xtreme team and has already had a chance to represent South Africa at the MotoGP Red Bull Rookies Selection Event in Spain.
Cayden started riding motorbikes nine years ago and has been enthralled by the sport ever since. He won the NSF Championship in 2022 and currently leads the 150 Cup Championship. His ultimate goal is to win as many races as possible!
Inspired by his father and brother, who also raced at a point, he can safely say it runs in his blood.
“My dad is definitely the inspiration. My older brother raced from a very young age, so I grew up around it. My dad always had a few bikes in the garage and so did my brother. I remember sitting on them and making as if I was racing them. It was natural for me to start riding at 4, then racing at 6. I honestly don’t remember life without bikes. I love it!”
We asked Cayden how it felt getting the chance to represent South Africa in Spain.
“It is a fantastic feeling. I truly feel honoured and blessed to have been able to attend the MotoGP Red Bull Rookies Selection Event and represent my King Price Xtreme team and country. Before anything, I am a fan, so it was a dream come true and very special for me to be invited to such a prestigious event.”
His formidable talent comes from his drive to follow his dreams. We touched base on his goals for his future in the sport, and they are brilliant!
“My ultimate goal is to race in Spain and to one day get the opportunity to race in the World Championships. For now, I will be working hard to prepare for next year. I hope to get invited again to the MotoGP Selection Event in 2024 and the dream is to be selected to race in the 2025 Championship.”
While he focuses on building his racing career, Cayden has excellent advice for fellow racers with hopes of racing internationally one day.
“Most importantly you have to work hard. The level is higher than it’s ever been, and everyone is pushing. It’s a very different lifestyle as we always training or racing. We miss a lot of school, so it means we have to put in the extra time to catch up. So, it’s not easy but if you work hard at it you definitely get better. For me, riding motorbikes is the best thing ever and I am grateful that I get to do it with my family all the time.”
Cayden has set his sights on the 2024 season under the guidance of team lead Clint Seller, the 9-time SA superbike champion, he will be setting his sights not only on fighting for another Championship in SA, but he will also look at competing in Europe. He is one race away from clinching the SA Short Circuit Championship and says he will be hard at work in the off-season to prepare for next year’s challenges.
In 2024, he will be racing in the 150 Cup in the SA Short Circuit Series and RSR Series. He is also set to race a ZX400 Kawasaki in the MRSSA next year.
While he isn’t racing, he is throwing all his focus into his school work, training and, of course, playing MotoGP on his gaming console.
Remember the name Cayden Robert; he is on his way to doing great things!
