Tapping their way to the podium, a talented young group of South African dancers dazzled the global dance floor at an international competition.
Croatia (06 June, 2023) — One thing about South Africans; we take our dancing seriously. And, making dance enthusiasts around the country proud are a talented young group of dancers who dazzled the global dance floor at the Dance Star World Dance Masters recently.
Just Wing It Studios’ dancing troupe exercised rhythm and professional groove at its finest during their showcase in Croatia where they tapped their way to the podium as a group and for some, individually.
As a troupe, they scored first place for the junior leg of the competition. For the duo stints, two dancing pairs earned first place in both the A and B leagues each.
As for the individuals, Chelsea Wedderburn scooped first place for the Senior Acro Solo B League and Dineo Du Toit took first prize for the A League’s Children Tap Solo.
The Future Generations Haven’t Forgotten About Dance
In an age where TikTok trends have been accused of stealing the natural and professional dancer’s flow, dancing in all its non-trend related forms is something to treasure.
We love a viral dance challenge as much as the next person. But, there’s something about those years of learning to master specific moves that still matters. Or the moves that tell difficult stories. And the ones that come purely from clout-free joy.
Celebrating young dancers going toe-to-toe in every literal sense is a nod to the unique relationship South Africa has with the intersection between sport and art. And we can’t wait to see these dancers dazzle onward and upward.
