South Africa’s top esports squad becomes the first African team invited to the prestigious Street Fighter League in Paris.

South Africa (13 November 2025) – Levelling up the game on a global stage, South Africa’s premier esports organisation, Goliath Gaming, is set to make history as the first African team ever invited to compete in Capcom’s prestigious Street Fighter League (SFL) Pro-Europe. The two-week tournament, taking place this November in Paris will see the top global teams compete for a share of $100,000 (R1.7 million).

Goliath Gaming, established in 2017, has grown from a local multi-gaming organisation into a key player in South Africa’s esports scene, hosting national tournaments, running digital marketing campaigns, and nurturing top-tier talent. The organisation has worked tirelessly to create meaningful opportunities for local players while reshaping perceptions of esports in Africa.

Team captain Jabhi ‘JabhiM’ Mabuza leads a squad of African all-stars.

“It feels amazing to represent Goliath Gaming, and by extension Africa, at the SFL, and we really hope we can do well. I always had a feeling that Africa would receive an opportunity like this. I just didn’t think it would happen so soon!”

He’s not alone! Joining him are Chukwudi ‘ChuX’ Okoli, a two-time Red Bull Kumite champion from Nigeria.

Reneil ‘JokerJokez’ Landell from the U.K., and Mark Moonsamy from South Africa, a 2024 Red Bull Kumite champion, also shared their pride.

“I’m extremely proud to represent Goliath Gaming at Street Fighter League. Africa is the motherland, the roots. To represent that on a global stage is nothing short of an honour,” said Reneil.

Mark added, “It’s an honour to represent Goliath Gaming and be a part of the first African team in the SFL. Now is the time for us to showcase the skill we have and to ensure we set the way for future talent and to never let Africa be left out of the conversation.”

Stephan Vermaas, Goliath Gaming’s manager, is thrilled about this global opportunity, saying it’s an incredible moment to showcase South African and African talent on the world stage. Also highlighting how the team’s dedication and the support from partners have made this milestone possible, and he’s confident they will make a strong impression in Paris.

The invitation to the SFL Pro-Europe shines a spotlight on Goliath Gaming but also sets a benchmark for African esports, demonstrating the continent’s growing presence.
