Luke James, Muhammad Khaalid Mia, Caitlin Rooskrantz and Naveen Daries have each earned a medal for South Africa at the 16th African Artistic Championships, bringing the total to 16!

 

Cairo, Egypt (12 July 2022) – Gymnastics South Africa have shared yet another exciting post about medals being won at the 16th African Artistic Championships in Egypt. Another two have been added to the list thanks to Luke James and Muhammad Khaalid Mia.

Team South Africa has had a phenomenal time at the event, earning many medals throughout the competition. The competition ran from the 5th of July to the 11th of July, 2022.

The junior men’s artistic gymnastics (MAG) team placed third overall in the African Championships Junior Team finals. The team was made up of Burhaan Mia, Daniel Mclean, Sibusiso Zulu, Keegan Klopper and Kadin Chester.

The senior MAG gymnasts placed third in the team finals as well. The team consisted of Ruan Lange, Muhammad Khaalid Mia and Luke James.

Caleigh Anders and Karma Visagie placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the All-Around women’s artistic gymnastics (WAG) junior competition. Earning the silver and bronze for their efforts.

The girls’ junior WAG gymnastics scored second in the team finals. The team consisted of Caleigh Anders, Karma Visagie, Sarah Armstrong, Farrah Brett and Tatum Daniels.

Caitlin Rooskrantz earned her gold as the WAG Senior All-Around Champion. Caleigh Anders and Karma Visagie placed 2nd and 3rd, this time on the bars. WAG juniors Farrah Brett and Caleigh Anders who placed 2nd and 3rd on the vault, while Naveen Daries earned the bronze medal in the WAG senior vault.

Luke and Muhammad’s medals were earned during the MAG senior floor competition. Luke earned a Silver and Muhammed a bronze. Muhammad’s younger brother was also at the competition. Burhaan Mia earned his first bronze for high bar, in the individual apparatus finals.

Lastly, Caitlin earned the final gold for Team SA in the WAG senior bars. Naveen earned the bronze during the same event.

At final count, that is 16 medals earned by Gymnastics South Africa at the championship.
