Bloemfontein, South Africa (08 April 2025) – The National Schools Swimming Championships Autumn Games were held in Bloemfontein from 5-7 April, and Leila Yazbek owned the Stadium Swimming Pool like a true star!
At just 16 years old, Leila is demonstrating the sheer talent and makings of a swimming sensation who is a force to be reckoned with, with medals and a trophy to show for it!
At the championships, she was crowned the SA U16 Champion in not just one or two, but an entire six categories, including the 100m fly, 100m free, 200 IM, 50m fly and 50m free.

The event, organised by the Departments of Basic Education and Sport, Arts, and Culture, brought together talented young swimmers from schools across the country. These students got to dive into the pool to showcase their athletic abilities and compete for titles in various swimming events, all while fostering social cohesion with their peers from diverse backgrounds.
According to her school, Eunice High School, Leila’s 100m fly, 100m free, 200 IM and 50m fly were also the fastest of all the female swimmers, irrespective of the age groups. The teen swimmer also had the second-quickest 100m breaststroke of all the swimmers.
The cherry on top was being awarded the prestigious accolade of the Senior Victrix Ludorum!
