Cape Town, South Africa (28 June 2024) — A little swimmer is taking on a massive challenge. Jamie Els might only be 12, but she’s already determined to make a difference where she can, and has taken on a mammoth task in light of this: 110kms in 10 days, all to raise funds for South African Para Swimmers.

While most learners have enjoyed some time off during the school holidays, Jamie decided to put the extra time to inspiring use.

“I have realised that differently abled swimmers can have higher essential life-style costs which means it could stop them from following their dream of competing in swimming or the Olympics. My dream is to go to the Olympics and I would love a differently abled person to have the same opportunity,” Jamie shared, explaining what ignited the brave challenge.

The Bergvliet Primary School swimmer has warmed her community’s hearts with her challenge and made her school very proud.

“Jamie’s initiative embodies the spirit of community and the power of youth-led action. Her goal is not just to complete the swim but to inspire others and rally support for a worthy cause. By sharing her story within the Bergvliet Primary School community and encouraging everyone to spread the word, Jamie hopes to reach as many people as possible, gathering widespread support for her fundraising efforts,” shared her school.

The little swimmer has initiated a crowdfunding campaign, which has already amassed over R10,000 in support in just eight days.

Meanwhile in other little heroes doing incredible things in the world of change-making, 11-year-old Kenzie Knott is currently tackling the 13 Peaks Challenge for orphaned baby rhinos!
