Louzanne Coetzee opens up about how she recovered from an ATFL injury, finds the right head space as an athlete and takes us on her #Path2Paris 2024.

South Africa (15 May 2024) – The second instalment of Louzanne Coetzee’s Path2Paris with Profmed has been released and her story continues to inspire! This episode, she shares how she overcame an injury that could have put a serious pause on her career.

Profmed is the official partner of South African Paralympian medalist and World Record Holder, Louzanne Coetzee. Thanks to this partnership, she was able to access the care needed to fully recover from injuring her anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) on her right ankle just two weeks before competing at the World Championships.

With scans to confirm the injury and then rehab to heal it, she was back on track and on her Path2Paris in no time!

Aside from injury and recovery, Louzanne shared how important a good head space is for going into training and the big, competitive events.

“Head space is a very real thing for many athletes, and I think competing and having more people know who you are – it does add some pressure, especially as a Paralympic athlete; people think you are just going to go and bring back bags of medals but I think the key is to manage that pressure and your head space” – Louzanne Coetzee.

During one of her talks, she jokes with the audience that even though she is a professional athlete, she still gets that hesitation of not wanting to go train and work out.

Claus Kempen, who runs alongside Louzanne as her guide, shares that mental health plays a big role for him too. He has found value in the wellness support he and Louzanne have received in addition to their cover.

Profmed plans to document each step of her build-up to more record-breaking feats, at the Paris Paralympics in 2024. Take a look at episode two below. In case you missed it, you can find episode one here.
