Team South Africa is made up by more than just our very best athletes; the team has an incredible support of coaches, admins and medical professionals too.
Linongwe, Malawi (07 December 2022) – Team South Africa is made up by more than just the athletes, there are trainers, coaches, medical teams and more that help bring home the gold. Team South Africa took some time to introduce two of the guys who work behind the scenes.
Meet Chief Medical Officer Janesh Ganda and Chief Physio Avilarsh Lukhan. The pair had some fun while doing a mini photo shoot as part of the introduction post. They have joined 209 athletes from eleven sporting codes at the 2022 Region V Youth Games in Malawi. The games will run until the 12th of December 2022.

Janesh Ganda (CMO) has a team of four doctors and two psychologists in Lilongwe to care for our athlete’s medical needs.
Janesh is a sports physician and the current Team Doctor of the Springbok Sevens team.
Avilarsh Lukhan (CP) has a team of 9 physiotherapists at the Games that are working tirelessly to ensure that all athletes are competition ready.Avi, as he’s famously known, represented Team SA at the Rio and Tokyo Olympics, Commonwealth Games, African Games and Youth Commonwealth Games.
The vibrant medical duo have been working well together, training together while keeping a playful energy within Team SA”
We love to see this kind of spirit at any sporting event! Knowing both Ganda and Lukhan get on so well, means our team is in the very best hands!
Team South Africa is on the road to the Olympics in 2024 so every sporting event between now and then, is to get as many athletes ready and qualified for the games as possible. By supporting our athletes today, we can hope for a stronger team that will be able to bring home more medals.
