Kgothatso Montjane and Donald Ramphadi are currently representing South Africa at the US Open; they have both done incredibly well.

 

New York, United States of America (09 September 2022) – Tennis South Africa is celebrating two South African players who are currently competing at the US Open. Kgothatso Montjane and Donald Ramphadi are currently representing South Africa at the US Open; they have both done incredibly well.

On the opening day yesterday, the 8th of September 2022, both Montjane and Ramphadi has winning starts!

“In the quads event, Ramphadi overcame a first-set scare to move into the semifinal round. He had to recover from dropping the first set 6-2, before going on to claim the next two 6-3, 7-5 against Koji Sugeno” – Tennis South Africa

“Montjane recovered from a set down to defeat Japan’s Saki Takamuro 6-7(12), 6-4, 6-1.”

The next match for Montjane saw the end of her singles journey at the Open following a straight-set defeat. However, she is still classed as the world no. 5 and went on to take part in the doubles, where she played her way to the semifinals. She will be playing alongside Japan’s Yui Kamiji.

Both Montjane and Ramphadi have been invited to take part in both the singles and doubles wheelchair tournaments.

Kgothatso Montjane

The Limpopo-born athlete is currently ranked number 1 in South Africa and number 5 in the World. Montjane made history by becoming South Africa’s first black woman to reach a Wimbledon singles final.

She is 36 years old and has a win rate of 54%, having won 13 of her 24 matches to date. She plays left-handed and has had her most success on hard court surfaces.

Donald Ramphadi

The Limpopo-born athlete is 29 years old and has a win rate of 62%, having won 21 of his 34 matches to date. He plays right-handed and has had his most success on clay court surfaces.
