Recognising the importance of men’s mental health, nine remarkable individuals, the “Current For Cause Team,” are embarking on an extraordinary challenge in their Speedos to uplift the vital work of SADAG.
Cape Town, South Africa (09 April 2025) – We all go through highs and lows, and for some, getting back on their feet can be more challenging than for others. Mental health has been one of the topics of discussion that has been at the forefront of our generation and for good reason – because we all need to be of sound mind and in a good place to show up for life.
The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) has been a lifeline for millions, helping those struggling with Mental Health challenges, emotional distress, and crises.
This organisation has helped lift countless lives from a place of darkness, allowing them to rediscover the light.
Looking to support SADAG’s life-changing work, particularly for men, are nine incredible individuals, dubbed the “Current For Cause Team”, who have taken it upon themselves to take on the Robben Island Swim challenge in Cape Town between May 14 and 24 (weather dependent).
“This gruelling 7.5km swim from the historic Robben Island to Blouberg Beach will be done in freezing waters—with nothing but our speedos—all to raise awareness and funds for Men’s Mental Health,” they shared with Sport for Lives.
“We’re proud to support SADAG, helping men in South Africa and beyond. We are aiming to raise R70 000 and the funds raised will be going towards the SADAG 24hr Call Centre’s running costs.”
Mental Health is real, and it remains a national priority, and we take our hats off to these champs who will brave chilly waters to ensure many men in need receive the support and comfort they need to not just face life but live it fully too!
