Celebrated chef David Higgs and South African cyclist Daryl Impey challenged themselves to the Cape Epic for a cause. In breaking good news, they have helped fundraise over R1 million for a home helping children fight serious illness!

Western Cape, South Africa (25 March 2024) — This morning, celebrated chef David Higgs (who is no stranger to a meaningful cycle) and South African cyclist Daryl Impey shared some breaking good news. Their Absa Cape Epic cycle mission has helped raise a fortune for Marang House Charity, to the tune of over R1 million!

The Cape Epic is the mother of mountain bike racing in the Western Cape. But for David and Daryl, it meant a massive opportunity to do some good for vulnerable children and those making their difficult path through life, gentler.

Marang House Charity is a special place for children who are fighting serious illnesses. More than a shelter, Marang House provides the essential and continuous medical care that the kids need so their bodies can be stronger, as well as the emotional support so their hearts can be strong too. For the children who call the haven in Parktown home, Marang House is not just walls and windows, but where hope lives for 12 children.

The Cape Epic unfolded over a series of days—even the most over-zealous cyclists would agree that the demanding 600km plus stretch should not be done in one go—and each day brought new hope to Marang House Charity.

After the final phase, David and Daryl sat back with a slight note of disappointment as they had not yet reached the R1 million mark. That was, until this morning when they checked the GivenGain campaign and realised they had surpassed it!

Thanks to this mammoth effort, Marang House Charity will likely not need to stress about funds for the next year as David indicates—an incredible win all its own.
