Raemondo, Noluthando, Emihle, Thando, Nasr and Diego are talented para-surfers, each with a unique story and a shared dream: to compete in the South African Para Surfing National Championships in Durban this April.

Cape Town, South Africa (12 March 2025) – Six para-surfers are on the brink of realising their greatest dreams come true! But one significant hurdle stands in their way.

This April, these promising surfing athletes from Cape Town have the chance to compete in the South African Para Surfing National Championships in Durban.

The South African Para Surfing Nationals is the official selection event for the 2025 World Para Surfing Championships in November.

Participation in this event offers these athletes a life-changing opportunity to qualify for the global stage, empowering them through sport and inclusion.

Wondering who these talented wave riders are?

Raemondo is a quadruple amputee who has become an inspiration in the para-surfing community.

Noluthando is a single mother and the defending Para Surfing Champion.

Emihle competes in the Stand 2 division and was a finalist in the 2024 South African Para Surfing Championships.

Thando, a recent high school graduate, competes in the kneel division as a lower limb amputee.

Nasr is a remarkable athlete in the All-Inclusive Stand Division who lives with Osteogenesis Imperfecta.

Finally, Diego, an athlete with a spinal cord injury, competes in the Prone Unassisted Division. He is a fierce competitor and has found a deep love for the ocean.

Each of them embodies resilience and passion, but they all need your help to get to the nationals!

The Roxy Davis Foundation has set up a BackaBuddy crowdfunding page to help garner support and funds from the greater public to help get these talented para-surfers to Durban’s sunny shores for the nationals.

“These athletes face financial and logistical challenges that make traveling and competing difficult. Your donation will help cover the following essential costs,” Roxy shares.

Funds raised will go towards travel and transport, accommodation, equipment logistics, support personnel and nutritional support – bringing them one step closer to becoming champions.
