Racing through fatigue and pain, promising motorbike racers and brothers Oratilwe and Amohelang Phiri persevered and triumphed at a championship-deciding race held at the Redstar Raceway recently.

Roodepoort, South Africa (24 October 2024) – The Phiri brothers, Oratilwe and Amohelang, have proven themselves to be forces to be reckoned with in the world of motorbike racing.

Oratilwe, a Grade 10 learner at Crawford International Ruimsig, recently faced a gruelling test of his resilience after experiencing a hard knock, causing him an injury that he refused to let dampen his spirits.

Having just returned from Spain on a trip, Oratilwe arrived on Friday, October 11, and was set to compete in a championship-deciding race the following day at Redstar Raceway in Mpumalanga.

Having had no time to squeeze in a practice session, Oratilwe bravely took to the track on Saturday.

According to his school, in the morning qualifiers, Oratilwe experienced a crash that caused significant pain to his left hip, yet he persevered through the discomfort and managed to qualify for second place on the grid.

“The crash caused him much pain to his left hip, and he was struggling to walk,” shared Oratilwe’s father.

With grit and determination, he went on to secure second place in all of his races for the day, confirming his 2024 Sub 500 Championship win.

His younger brother, Amohelang, also impressed, finishing second overall in the NSF100 class, despite jet lag from their international journey.

“Well done to the talented Oratilwe and Amohelang for their outstanding performances, embodying the spirit of excellence that we nurture here at Crawford International Ruimsig,” the school said.
