The Pirates Women’s Rugby Club is raising R60,000.00 to get to the Dubai 7’s tournament in December to fly the South African flag high.

Johannesburg, South Africa – The Pirates Women’s Rugby Team was started two and a half years ago at Pirates Rugby Club. The club itself is over 130 years old and well known in Greenside in Johannesburg.

The team has had a great season and have been invited to the Dubai Sevens. They won their first Lions Women’s Jozi League earlier this year and are hoping to attend the exciting tournament. Thankfully, the majority of their expenses have been sponsored, but the team have started a crowdfund to cover the cost of each player’s visa.

“They have the opportunity to represent Pirates at the Dubai Sevens tournament in December and have a sponsor for the flights, accommodation and entry fee. The team still needs to ensure that all the players get a visa which will cost R2000 a player. The players also need to ensure they get enough food so that the have enough energy to compete in the Dubai heat which will also be R2000 per player for the complete trip.

A total of 15 people are going. We thus need R4000 per person and in total it will be R60,000 for the team. We have the month of October to raise the money.

The team will have a once in a lifetime experience in Dubai. It will also be a learning and growing opportunity for the team which they can bring back to Johannesburg and help to improve the women’s rugby in Johannesburg.”

A few people have already started to donate to the fund, but with only ten days left in October, they hope to reach their goal in the next few days.

If you would like to support the team, you can donate to their fund here. The money will be managed by the Pirates Rugby Club.
