Backed by the biggest crowd of the tournament so far, the Proteas made it three wins from three in Group D, defeating New Zealand by seven wickets.
Ahmedabad, India (16 February 2026) – One thing South Africans know how to do is draw attention, especially when the spotlight is at its brightest. And under the lights in Ahmedabad, in front of the biggest crowd of the tournament so far, the Proteas delivered a statement performance.
More than 50,000 fans packed into the Narendra Modi Stadium as South Africa took on New Zealand in their third T20 World Cup clash, and the atmosphere only fuelled an already in-form side. The Proteas walked away with a commanding seven-wicket victory, chasing down 175 with 17 balls to spare to make it three wins from three in Group D.

Captain Aiden Markram led from the front with a sensational 86 not out from just 44 balls, striking eight fours and four sixes. This is why he wears the captain armband, combining composure with aggression on the field.
Earlier, Marco Jansen set the tone with an impressive 4-40, while disciplined death bowling from Corbin Bosch helped restrict New Zealand to 175 for seven after they were asked to bat first.
Speaking after the match, Aiden acknowledged the electric atmosphere.
“It’s a bit unexpected to have a big crowd. But as players, you want to play in front of a vibey atmosphere, a loud crowd and that’s exactly what tonight was.”
Up next is a challenge against UAE, but with wins over Canada, Afghanistan and now New Zealand, South Africa’s campaign is gathering serious momentum. Three matches, three victories, and a growing wave of support.
