With back-to-back runner-up finishes behind them, the Proteas Women are ready to chase their dream at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
Johannesburg, South Africa (11 September 2025) – South Africans are set to see yet another team on the cusp of a global showpiece! This time it’s the Proteas Women. After a spirited send-off filled with song and celebration, the Proteas Women are all set to take their fight to the global stage at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 in India.
The green-and-gold squad was officially capped in a joyful ceremony on Wednesday, receiving their blazers and gifts as a reminder that they are not just playing for themselves, but for every South African who will be cheering them on.
The excitement comes at a time when the Proteas Women are on the brink of greatness. Twice in recent years they have gone all the way to the final. First against Australia on home soil in 2023 where Australia won by 19 runs. The second time was against New Zealand in 2024 only to fall by 32 runs. Those heartbreaks, however, have only fuelled the fire. This time, the belief is stronger than ever that the team can push through and lift the trophy.
In a touching moment, supporters penned heartfelt good-luck notes on a message board, leaving the team with a wall of encouragement to carry with them on their journey. A powerful reminder of how much the nation believes in them.

Before heading to India for the month-long showpiece, the squad will sharpen their skills in a three-match ODI series against Pakistan in Lahore from 16–22 September. It’s the perfect warm-up for what promises to be an electrifying campaign.
Captain Laura Wolvaardt captured the mood perfectly.
“It is an incredible honour to lead this team into a World Cup. Today’s ceremony reminds us that we are part of something far greater than ourselves, we represent every South African who believes in us.”
The tournament kicks off on 30 September and runs until 2 November, and with the whole nation behind them, the Proteas Women are ready to show the world they are contenders with unfinished business.
