The South African Transplant Sports Association was able to sell 857 raffle tickets which will go a long way in raising funds needed to support athletes at the 2023 World Transplant Games.
South Africa (02 December 2022) – The World Transplant Games will be happening in Perth, Australia in 2023. The South African Transplant Sports Association (SATSA) launched a raffle to raise funds for the athletes that will be sent to represent South Africa. They managed to sell 857 raffle tickets – a massive help towards getting the team overseas.
The South African Transplant Sports Association hosted the raffle with the prize being a Norco Storm Mountain Bike Worth R11000,00! They aimed to sell 1000 tickets, so they came very close to that goal. Johannes van der Merwe from Nelspruit won the prize.
SATSA was founded by a group of organ recipients in 1994 under the then name “The Transplant Games Association of South Africa”. It was founded with the hope of promoting a healthy, active lifestyle and involvement in sports.
The association changed its name to The South African Transplant Sports Association in 2006. It is a recognised sporting association in both South Africa and the world. The games are held every two years and South Africa has attended each one to date.
SATSA is a non-profit organisation representing transplant recipients, donor families (including living donors), Health Care professionals involved in organ donation and transplantation, corporate businesses involved in transplantation and corporate business involved in funding and sponsorships.
You can follow along with the athletes’ preparations and any further funding campaigns via SATSA’s Facebook page here. The team has started sharing the stories of the athletes that will be representing South Africa next year.
