The South African Deaf Rugby Association is celebrating a successful tour in Argentina this week as the Seven’s squad earned a world ranking of 4th. South Africans are so proud!!!
Cordoba, Argentina (12 April 2023) – Last month, the South African Deaf Rugby Association (SADRA), Director of Rugby, Peter de Villiers, and his coaching staff announced their squad for the International Deaf Rugby Sevens in Cordoba, Argentina which was set to take place in early April.
The 12-man squad along with Head Coach, Marlize van der Merwe, convened in Gauteng at the beginning of April before they flew to Cordoba to prepare for the tournament which ran from the 5th – 9th of April.
The South African team debuted on the international stage and made South Africa proud in the process. The team of 12 flew the flag high and earned a first-time ranking of 4th.

The team worked their way up the log, heading into a match against England for the Bronze. Sadly they didn’t win the match but earned the ranking of 4th.
The team has since arrived back home, announcing the happy news on the 10th of April 2023.
