A dynamic team of six talented athletes have their sights set on showcasing all their skills, moves and rhythm to represent SA at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Rio De Janeiro!

Johannesburg, South Africa (23 April 2025) – The 2025 South African Senior Rhythmic Gymnastics team is getting ready to bring the heat, rhythm and all the vibes to the 41st Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, happening in August 2025.

Organised by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG), this competition is the world championships for the sport of rhythmic gymnastics.

Our green and gold Rhythmic Gymnastics Group is made up of six young ladies: Aaliyah Kuvido, Aimee Aslam, Ava de Bruin, Chloe Wolstenholme, Danni Vermaak and Jadi Malan, who all started rhythmic as youngsters at the Gold Reef Rhythmic Gymnastics Club in Johannesburg.

Through years of dedication, discipline and passion, they have developed into elite athletes to reach this ultimate milestone.

“This group of talented girls, trains for more than 36 hours each week with unwavering focus and commitment whilst balancing academics, all in preparation to proudly represent our country on the world stage, and lead the way as the first Senior South African Gymnastics Group to participate in this prestigious competition,” shares Gold Reef Rhythmic Gymnastics Club’s Veida Aslam.

This incredible journey is, however, entirely self-funded by the gymnasts and their coaches, covering significant costs like travel, accommodation, and official gear. To help these inspiring athletes reach the Rio stage, they’ve launched a BackaBuddy campaign, inviting Mzansi to contribute to their success.

“This financial support not only invests in athletic excellence but empowers these girls to achieve their highest potential and inspire others through the beautiful sport of rhythmic gymnastics. Every contribution, big or small, will greatly help.”
