Bianca Zoonekynd made history by becoming the first female Trampoline World Champion in South Africa. She did all this just 3 months after a bad car accident.
Bianca Zoonekynd was in a bad car accident just three months before she went to Sofia, Bulgaria to compete in the Trampoline World Championship. Bianca was hospitalised with broken ribs and a punctured lung, in her hometown of Port Elizabeth.
Her recovery was important as she was planning to compete in the Trampoline World Championship. Her mother, Mandy Zoonekynd, is her coach and the moment the announcement was made that Bianca had won, she burst into tears of joy.
“No one could believe that this humble athlete had pulled off the impossible by winning gold.” – Samantha Strydom, Publicist
The routine that Bianca performed was dazzling and flawless. She won gold in the double mini trampoline event. The last South African to win this event was Derrick Lotz, 37 years ago in Brig, Switzerland.
“In a stunning turn of events, Bianca has shown South Africa and the world that courage and determination are all you need to follow your dreams.” – Samantha Strydom, Publicist
Bianca hopes that this win will help her get funding for her mother’s gym in PE. She would like to give back and start giving previously disadvantaged communities the opportunity to train and compete at these international events.
