King Edward VII School has honoured Grade 9 pupil Puseletso Mabote who is currently competing at the Paralympics in Tokyo.
Johannesburg, South Africa (02 September 2021) – It is an incredible honour to be selected to compete with Team South Africa and represent the country on an international stage but to do so when still freshly enrolled in high school, just marvellous!
Puseletso Mabote went over to Tokyo, Japan, to compete in the 100m and long jump. He is classed in the T63 category: Athletes with a leg amputation who compete with prosthetics in a standing position.
Mabote was able to set an African record during the Men’s 100m (T63), heats. He finished 3rd in his heat in an African record of 12.64.
Mabote is a Grade 9 pupil at King Edward VII School, and he has made the entire school proud. They praised his recent efforts at the Paralympics on Facebook , and it drew in hundreds of similar messages of love, support and pride!
“Grade 9 pupil Puseletso Mabote has done remarkably well at the Paralymics. He finished 7th in 12.66sec in the men’s 100m (T63) final.
Puseletso remember, even though you didn’t get a medal, the most important thing is, you’ve tried, you broke the African record, you’ve done something & learned something extraordinary in the process.
You have made us all Proud.”
The message they share is a beautiful one too! To remember the important things and getting the chance to do something extraordinary.
Mabote has a very bright athletics future ahead of him so remember his name well!
While we share the happy news of each medal earned at the Paralympics, we would also like to take a moment to honour each and every person competing at the games. That them just being there is a great source of pride!
