Charities involved in extracurricular activities like sports are starting to operate again and are in need of your second-hand soccer equipment.
Johannesburg, South Africa (28 August 2020) – Brothers, Somaan Khan and Aazan Khan, Ross Garrett and Michael Adamson have teamed up to make a difference in underprivileged communities. They set up Play It Forward Jozi, to make a difference in South Africa.
The four boys decided to collect old and second-hand sporting equipment that can be sent to underprivileged children, schools and sporting clubs. They started collecting takkies and sports shoes, racquets, bats, hockey sticks, golf clubs, gloves and balls. The selfless boys set up a collection point at their school, and it was a massive success.
The boys have touched the lives of hundreds of underprivileged kids and teens since they have been collecting sporting goods.
Sadly the pandemic and lockdown meant no collections but as the country starts getting back on its feet, many organisations are starting to spring back to life.
Play It Forward Jozi has been receiving pleas for assistance as underprivileged groups start their sporting activities again. They have taken to their group to ask if anyone has second-hand sporting goods to donate to the cause.
Mostly they are in need of soccer equipment to start. One of the beneficiaries on their list is a small soccer team in Pholapark, Thokoza, East Rand.
“We are in dire need of assistance as this pandemic has so many of our boys wandering the streets and we created the team to avoid them getting involved in any activities that could endanger their lives be in drugs or gangsterism and any crime that could attract them during these trying times.
The saying ” An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.”; is so true and with schools being closed as well, they have too much free time. We have resumed training but we have very little equipment.” – Pholapark Game Changers Management
That letter is just one of many. These organisations are working hard to get children off the streets and out of trouble.
Things like soccer balls, bibs and cones are just some of the simple tools needed to keep the children engaged in the sport during lockdown.
If you have any well-loved (but good quality) soccer equipment you would like to donate to the cause, you can reach out via Facebook here or email here.
