Michaela Spocter earned gold in the U17 high jump category at the SA High School Nationals Track and Field Championship, jumping 1.75 meters high and breaking the current record.

 

Durbanville, South Africa (10 April 2024) – Meet Michaela Spocter, a Grade 10 learner from Curro Meridian Pinehurst in Durbanville, Cape Town, who has once again proven that the sky is literally the limit, after clinching gold in the Under 17 high jump category at the South African High School Nationals Track and Field Championship, reaching a height of 1.75 meters.

Having shattered the existing record with a breathtaking leap of 1.73 meters at the Western Cape High School Championship, this is not just a personal victory for Michaela, but sets her reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the world of athletics.

Ian Permall, Sports Coordinator at Curro Meridian Pinehurst, expressed his pride in Michaela’s achievement, stating:

“Michaela’s exceptional win speaks volumes about her relentless dedication and determination. She has established herself as a formidable athlete and competitor and we are thrilled to have her represent our school on the national stage.”

Michaela’s leap to success has been marked by numerous accolades and milestones over the last few years. Since she first stepped onto the competitive track in 2019, she has consistently demonstrated her prowess, securing gold medals at various competitions, including the Northern Zone meeting and the Western Province Track and Field meetings.

Her resilience and dedication have propelled her to the forefront of South Africa’s athletic scene, a feeling which she describes as astronomical.

As Michaela continues to soar to new heights, her future in the world of athletics looks brighter than ever. With her sights set on further triumphs, she is sure to inspire a new generation of high jumpers with her remarkable talent.
