21-year-old Reuben Jansen van Rensburg is South Africa’s “Strongman” and he hopes to fly the flag high overseas.

South Africa (01 July 2024) – Reuben Jansen van Rensburg has qualified to compete in the prestigious Natural Strongman Worlds in Galway, Ireland, on 24 and 25 August 2024. As a South African Strongman athlete, he gets the chance to compete overseas and has started crowdfunding to make that dream a reality. He aims to show that one can be strong while doing it 100% naturally.

His mom, Sinta Ebersohn, has been rallying support to help get his fund up to R50,000. They have already raised R8,000 offline and now need to make up the difference. R 12,368 has been donated, and with just four weeks to go, time is of the essence.

“This remarkable achievement places him on the global stage among the best natural athletes in the world and he is calling on the community for support through a crowdfunding campaign on Back a Buddy.

Over the past 18 months, Reuben has demonstrated extraordinary dedication and perseverance, securing top positions in major Strongman competitions without using anabolic steroids or growth enhancers.” – Sinta Ebersohn

Reuben has been busy, earning several medals in competitions throughout South Africa. But the international stage is now calling.

  • Arnold Classic Under 80kg: 3rd Place/Bronze Medal
  • Southern Cape Strongest Man: 1st Place/Gold Medal
  • South Africa Strongest Man: 2nd Place/Silver Medal
  • Western Cape Strongest Man: 1st Place/Gold Medal
  • African Strongman Union (ASU) Log & Deadlift Championships: 3rd Place/Bronze Medal

With his heart set on going overseas, Reuben and his family have been tasked with covering the costs of flights, accommodation, food, equipment, and other necessary expenses. They have been working hard to cover the costs but have turned to fundraising in the hope of public support for his dream.

“Competing in the Natural Strongman Worlds is a dream come true,” says Reuben. “I am committed to representing South Africa with pride and demonstrating the power of natural strength and perseverance. With the community’s support, I believe I can achieve great things in Ireland.”
