With exactly three weeks to go until the 2023 Netball World Cup, the trophy all countries will be playing for has finally landed in host city, Cape Town.
Cape Town, South Africa (07 July 2023) — The big countdown to the 2023 Netball World Cup has flown by with just three weeks until the historic event. With multiple moments adding to the hype of the World Cup—from dedicated artworks to community events—few things beat the trophy of the hour touching down in the host City. Now, that moment has arrived as the Netball World Cup trophy all countries will be playing for has officially touched down on City ground!
After an exciting tour that saw the trophy travel extensively in South Africa after catching a flight from London, it finishes its Western Cape excursions today by touching down in the Netball World Cup’s host city, Cape Town.
In the heart of the Mother City, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais will welcome the symbol that’s newly anointed with African pride as the first World Cup in Netball history to be hosted in Africa.
While the City of Cape Town lights up with excitement, the rest of the country is honouring the World Cup in all kinds of South African ways. Johannesburg for one, is hosting a fun walk to support the Proteas and spotlight netball as part of Community Development and Sports Recreation legacies in the City of Gold.
