Man uses Siri to save his life

Sam Ray, an 18-year-old from Tennessee, managed to use Siri, Apple’s voice activated assistant to call 911 while trapped underneath his truck & unable to reach his phone.

Sam was alone when the truck he was fixing fell on him. Fortunately, however, the teen realised his phone was in his back pocket & he was able to activate Siri using his butt cheeks.

“I had a funny noise under the truck that I thought needed attention, so I got underneath there and located the noise.”

The jack he was using fell apart and sent the nearly 5,000 pound truck crashing down on his chest & limbs.

“It felt like my leg was breaking because I could feel it bending,”

As Ray tried to free his leg, his iPhone lit up in his back pocket. It was Siri.

Siri then called the emergency services on Ray’s behalf. Although operators thought it was a prank or accidental call at first, they soon heard the teenager’s cries for help and dispatched assistance after they located Mr Ray’s home in a suburb of Nashville by triangulating the signal from his mobile phone.

Speaking to local newspaper the Tennessean on Friday, Ray said:

“This arm was above my head, tangled up. I know it was on the exhaust because it was burnt from here up. I could feel myself slipping. I was starting to accept that I wouldn’t get out.”

Rescue workers were able to pull Ray from underneath the truck, & he was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Ray was seriously hurt in the incident, suffering several broken ribs, a bruised kidney, cuts, a concussion & burns to his left arm, but he has since recovered.

And after Siri’s role in saving his life, it doesn’t look like Ray will be switching to a new phone brand anytime soon!

I guess I’m stuck with an iPhone for the rest of my life. I owe them that.
