Two years ago, Ronnie Brower weighed 307 kilograms and was unemployed because he couldn’t even leave the house. A doctor predicted he wouldn’t live past 35 if he didn’t make drastic changes to his lifestyle.

Syracruse.com reports that Joe Bufano, who taught Brower in high school and had stayed in touch with him, saw a Facebook post his former student made about his terrifying prognosis. Bufano decided to intervene, and reached out to personal trainers to help Brower fight for his life.

Brower is a Taylor Swift fan, and credits the singers’s music for helping inspire him to get his life back on track. His training started with exercises he could complete at home as he was unable to leave his house, such as using a hand bike and hand weights. Eventually, he moved on to listening to Swift at the gym.

Brower started a Facebook page called “600 lbs to Success” to document his weight loss journey, including milestones like being able to tie his own shoes again for the first time in years and swimming in a lake. He has lost more than 182 kilograms.

Bufano promised Brower that if he met his weight loss goal, he’d buy his friend a ticket to go see Swift on June 3 in Cleveland, and both men lived up to their promises.

Now Bufano is trying to make the special event more memorable. He started an online campaign to get Brower backstage to meet the singer who kept him going through his transformation. A video Bufano shared on May 12 documents Brower’s weight loss and encourages Swift to get in touch.

“For all of his hard work, that you’re about to see, I’d really want to make your concert special for him,” Brower explained in the video.
