Last week, Hanover Park and Wolwerivier were badly affected by winter weather in the Cape; the Mustadafin Foundation is working to help affected families.

Cape Town, South Africa (03 September 2023) – Last week, the Mustadafin Foundation urgently responded to a dire situation caused by a cold front that hit Cape Town. This relentless weather system brought strong winds and rain, wreaking havoc in the communities of Hanover Park and Wolwerivier. As a result, numerous shelters were extensively damaged, leaving countless residents stranded and exposed to the merciless cold. Now, more than ever, Mustadafin need your support to help these vulnerable individuals in their time of need.

“Some of our staff members working in the area started getting calls during the late hours of the night requesting support and this continued throughout the cold front,” says Ghairunisa Johnstone-Cassiem, director at Mustadafin.

“On Friday we embarked on an essentially goods distribution drive to the affected areas, providing residents with blankets, food parcels and hygiene packs. Considering the extend of the impact and how many people have been displaced, the relief effort will take some time. We are urging the public to provide their support by donating essential items to our head office.”

The items that are currently needed to continue the relief efforts include clothing, warm blankets, food items, hygiene packs and building materials, especially roof sheeting. Donations can be made to:

Mustadafin Foundation,
