Ashmira Ramsewak and her boyfriend Joshua McNamara, found a friendly but scared cat and when they took it to the vet, it turned out to have been missing for one year and seven months!
Roodepoort, South Africa (10 October 2023) – Ashmira and Joshua were at the Little Falls Virgin Active by Ruimsig, Roodepoort when they saw a cat run into a nearby drain. Ashmira went to check on it and found that while it was really scared, it was friendly and with a little convincing, the couple managed to catch it. What they found out next gave them both goosebumps!
Ashmira and Joshua spent two hours at the gym, trying to coax the cat out of the drain. Joshua was able to reach into the drain and scooped the fluffy grey cat up to take it home. They could see it was cared for but was covered in ticks. The next morning they set off for their local vet to have the ticks sorted and find out if the cat had a microchip.
“The next morning we went off to get his ticks removed and see if he was microchipped. It turned out he was! We phoned the owners and were astonished to find out that he had been missing for a whole year and 7 months. The family were in complete disbelief.”
A year and seven months earlier, Jinx the cat went missing in Wilgeheuwel, Roodepoort. Bodene Maritz took to social media, asking people for help finding Jinx. They even went as far as offering a reward for Jinx’s return. They were devastated that Jinx never returned. This made the phone call from Ashmira almost unbelievable!
Bodene and the family are currently away on holiday but they will be home any day now and are so excited to be reunited with their beloved cat. In the meantime, Jinx’s human grandma has collected him and is caring for him.
What Ashmira shared next warmed our hearts! Jinx belongs to Bodene’s daughter and the day that she contacted them, was the daughter’s birthday. Bodene said her daughter declared it as the “best birthday ever”!
As the family had originally offered a reward, Bodene asked Ashmira for her banking details but she immediately declined by saying,
“Finding him was reward enough.”
“It made our whole year to know he is back and safe!” – Ashmira Ramsewak
Our hearts are so full in sharing this story! Having such a happy ending, especially after so long, brings a smile to our faces. We cannot wait to hear when Jinx is reunited with his family later this week.
