Tyrone Ping was on his way to help catch a deadly (but tiny) snake when he was pulled over. He explained the situation, and they gave him the blue light treatment, escorting him all the way to the house.
Cape Town, South Africa (05 June 2024) – Snake expert Tyrone Ping got quite the fright when he heard a tap on his window and looked up to see a traffic officer standing there. Tyrone was on his phone (a rule that the local traffic officers take very seriously), looking for directions to a house where he needed to go rescue a tiny snake. When they heard what he was doing, they helped him get to the snake faster.
The snake in question was a small puff adder and while it may have been so small, it is still a deadly snake. Tyrone needed to get to the house to catch the puff adder and safely relocate it back into the wild.
The officers realised that the situation was quite time-sensitive so they offered to help get Tyrone there as soon as possible. He just needed to follow them as they used their lights to caution traffic and drive through time-consuming stop streets and red lights.
The best part is the officer joined him at the rescue, managing to snap a photo for his colleagues. Tyrone shared that the puff adder was likely only a few weeks old.
Tyrone then hiked up the mountain and released the snake back into the wild where it belonged.
Tyrone Ping shares a wealth of knowledge on his website should you wish to learn more about the snakes in the area. He was born and raised in Durban, so he developed a passion for reptiles at a young age. He has gone on to pursue a career in caring for them, raising awareness and rescuing them when needed.
