Two emerging local photographers are bringing a slice of township life to Paris thanks to their exhibition at the PhotoSaintGermain festival in Paris!
Paris, France (30 October 2024) — Two emerging local photographers, Tshepiso Mazibuko and Sibusiso Bheka are bringing a slice of South Africa to Paris thanks to their opportunity to exhibit their work at the esteemed PhotoSaintGermain festival!
Here, they are showcasing Ubusukunemini (Day and Night) which is set to run from 30 October to 23 November.
A joint-exhibition, the emerging local photographers tasked themselves to bring contemporary life in Thokoza into focus; presenting post-apartheid realities and perspectives of the born free generation. Both photographers are alumni of Of Soul and Joy.
Ubusukunemini was curated by Valérie Fougeirol as a way to offer an intimate portrait of the township that both the photographers were born and raised in.

“This exhibition is a dialogue about the present and the past, captured through the lens of Thokoza’s landscape, its community and its memory,” Valérie explains. “The photographers transport viewers between day and night, burning colour and timeless black and white. Together, their work reflects a stillness and a persistent yearning for change in the South African township.”

The two will also be participating in the second edition of La Nuit du Photojournalisme (Night of Photojournalism) which celebrates innovation in visual journalism.
