The collective efforts of a beach cleanup by WILDTRUST and eThekwini Municipality yielded impressive results, with over 100 bags of litter removed from Durban beachfront’s stunning dunes.

Durban, South Africa (30 October 2024) – Our beautiful beaches, in all their pristine glory, are no place for litter and trash.

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the WILDTRUST Blue Port team, in collaboration with eThekwini Municipality, embarked on a mission to restore Durban beachfront’s breathtaking coastline to its former glory.

Armed with black bags and a passion for conservation, volunteers gathered to clean up the stunning beachfront dunes.

The clean-up focused on three spots: Addington Beach, Blue Waters Hotel front, and the Durban Fun World area.

Working hand in hand, the Blue Port team and the Durban Municipality rolled up their sleeves, with support from the Durban Metro Police and a fantastic group of community members.

Pleased with the initiative, the Coordinator of Area-Based Management at the eThekwini Municipality, Viren Sookdheo, shared the spirit of the day:

“As the festive season approaches, we want to give our beachfront a fresh look and make sure it’s clean and ready for all the visitors coming to our lovely city.”

Wendy Dunn, WILDTRUST Project Coordinator, echoed this sentiment and encouraged everyone to embrace a sense of pride and care for our coastline during this season of fun!

“No one wants to relax on a dirty beach!” Wendy exclaimed.

Together, the teams collected over 100 bags of litter, making our beaches a more inviting place for everyone.

This significant achievement not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of Durban’s coastline but also protects marine life and safeguards the delicate ecosystem, leading a great example that every individual has the power to contribute to a cleaner, greener future!
