The young learners of the MES’ Johannesburg After School Programme were treated to an enriching experience in Durban, which allowed them to explore the wonders of the ocean and embrace the spirit of adventure.

Durban, South Africa (21 January 2024) – The eager minds of MES’ Johannesburg After School Program (ASP) recently swapped the city lights for the warmth and coastal charm of Durban as part of the Sea Camp, which kicked off on Sunday.

The ASP Learners, consisting of students from grades 8 to 12, were brimming with excitement as they discovered a whole new environment and enjoyed splashing in the cool waves – a first for many of these youngsters.

MES’ ASP supports inner-city children’s academic, spiritual, physical, and social development, helping them become well-rounded and healthy young people despite their disadvantaged backgrounds. The Sea Camp, a highlight of the programme, afforded the youngsters an experience that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on their lives.

“We took part in various team-building activities and explored challenging topics designed to build character. The theme of the week was masks, focusing on embracing our true and authentic selves,” MES said.

The children also got to learn about the fascinating world of marine wildlife and enjoyed seeing dolphins perform incredible tricks during a fun visit to uShaka Marine World.

MES thanked its sponsors for making the camp an exciting, informative and unforgettable experience that has inspired these learners to reach their full potential.
