A dog, once dumped as an inconvenience when her owner decided to move house, found refuge just outside the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. There, she was noticed by two angels who tirelessly reported her whereabouts to the Soweto Animal Rescue & Advisory Centre with the hope of giving her the life and love she deserved.

Johannesburg, South Africa (02 June 2025) – One poor doggo found outside the gates of the Baragwanath Hospital has found solace in the arms of those who see her true value.

The dog, which is believed to have been abandoned by its owner following a recent move, was allegedly dumped in a veld not far from the hospital.

“She found a refuge outside the gates of the hospital near the security exit point,” shared the Soweto Animal Rescue & Advisory Centre (SARAC) in a post.

Some doctors and hospital staff tried to lure her in with food and other goodies to catch her, but as soon as anyone came close to her, the dog would bolt, as she had lost trust in humans.

After several failed attempts and out of concern for the dog’s well-being, members of the community reached out to the Soweto Animal Rescue to intervene.

“We tried several times to catch her with little success. But we always persevere, and eventually, after some serious strategic planning, we managed to capture her.”

The rescued dog has since been treated and sterilised.

In a heartwarming turn of events this week, the kind humans who helped in the rescue of the dog, Bron and Simone, got to meet her, and the best part?  The once-untrusting dog approached them with love and sloppy kisses!

Bron and Simone tirelessly kept a lookout for the dog whenever it came to the hospital and alerted the animal shelter to the extent that they felt that SARACs’ heavily constrained resources were being exhausted.

But their efforts were not in vain, and there’s hope that this dog has a chance for brighter days ahead!

“When they visited SARAC, they just couldn’t believe their eyes, as the dog recognised them and it was smoochy kisses, a completely different personality, with sparkling eyes and couldn’t stop wagging her tail!”
