Five boys armed with their empty paint containers and a passion for drumming set the stage for the most heartwarming act of kindness last week! Discovered by chance by Conrad James, he immediately felt compelled to help, and within minutes, a plan was set in motion to gift the boys new marching drums!
Piketberg, South Africa (14 July 2025) – When Conrad Jamneck stumbled across a video of five children from Piketberg playing “drums” using empty paint containers they had modified to sound like marching drums, he wasn’t just entertained, he was moved beyond measure.
Having been raised by a drummer, Conrad’s heart instantly melted.
“My dad was a side drum player at school, and so was I. So, when I watched these kids, I felt something must be done to get them some real drums,” Conrad shared in a post.
And so Conrad wasted no time in reaching out to a friend of his, Werner Botha, who works at a premier music store.
“I showed him the video and left him a voice note. 13 minutes later, I get a reply: ‘let’s make a plan’. Then, 12 minutes later, another message from Werner: ‘Done. Where do you want it delivered?’.”
Needless to say, Conrad was blown away by the swift action and kindness to help the group of young boys.
“I sat outside my boxing gym in my car, shaking my head in disbelief and in belief! No matter what, no matter where, there are people who can and will make a difference,” Conrad reflected.
He shared a Facebook post featuring videos and images of the VGK Jeug Brigade boys with their older makeshift drums, as well as sporting shy smiles with their new, shiny marching drums – all set to create magic!
“Today [8 July] I had a day. A day I will never ever forget!!! I got to deliver these drums to these amazing kids!”

Conrad thanked Lieutenant Swarts, VGK jeug brigade, Jeremy Maarman of Initiative for Community Advancement, Frazer Barry, Werner Botha and everyone involved in making this special donation possible and supporting a group of talented young boys.
“My hart is vol,” he exclaimed.
There you have it. Sometimes, scrolling through social media can pave the way to good things and wonderful experiences. Conrad’s efforts and the contributions of all involved beautifully illustrate how the desire to help and community effort can transform the lives of young, passionate individuals, turning their makeshift dreams into a vibrant reality!
