The snake that once ruled e.tv has slithered back… this time with Jack Black and Paul Rudd leading the charge in a comedy-packed reboot.
Global (17 September 2025) – South Africans all know the joke: if you turned on e.tv at some point in the 2000s, chances are Anaconda was on, the original with Jennifer Lopez. It became such a running gag that the movie found a permanent place in our pop culture memory (Anaconda…. on eeeeeeeee)!
And now, in 2025, Anaconda is back… but not the way you remember it.
The brand-new Anaconda movie has just dropped its trailer and this one leans into comedy rather than horror. And it looks like ridiculous, chaotic fun.
Doug (played by Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd) have been best friends since they were kids, bonding over their shared obsession with the “classic” Anaconda (maybe they were watching it on “eeeeeeee” too. Now, midlife crises and all, they decide to finally make their own version of the movie.
Cameras, crew, enthusiasm… what could possibly go wrong?
Plenty, it turns out.
As they plunge deep into the Amazon to shoot their passion project, the dream of remaking their childhood favourite quickly unravels. A real, giant anaconda slithers onto the set, turning their comic adventure into a very real fight for survival.
“The movie they’re dying to make? It might just get them killed,” teases the trailer.
It’s not often that a reboot takes a left turn into comedy but this one feels like the right move. With Jack Black’s over-the-top humour and Paul Rudd’s effortless charm, audiences are in for something completely different… a parody wrapped in nostalgia, with a dash of genuine adventure thrown in.
And for South Africans, the whole thing comes with that extra wink of nostalgia. The original Anaconda was practically a channel’s mascot. This new take feels like the perfect way to laugh with the past while giving us something fresh to look forward to.
The new Anaconda movie slithers into cinemas later this year. One thing’s for sure, whether you’re there for the laughs, the giant snake or the memory of those endless Sunday-night re-runs, this is going to be a fun ride.
