Cape Town comes alive as the Springbok Sevens storm to back-to-back Cape Town Sevens titles after thrilling wins.
Cape Town, South Africa (08 December 2025) – A few weeks ago, SA Rugby CEO Rian Oberholzer said Cape Town could expect a weekend that feels less like a rugby tournament and more like a full-on festival. A mix of sport, lifestyle and music, all wrapped into two unforgettable days. And it absolutely delivered!
DHL Stadium was buzzing. Costumes, flags, DJs, dancing, sunshine, and 31,941 fans. And right at the centre of it was the Blitzboks who defended their HSBC SVNS title in Cape Town crown in style.
South Africa edged Argentina 21–19 in a final that had every bit of drama you expect from a Sevens showdown. Argentina struck first. But the Blitzboks replied almost instantly as Zain Davids poached a pass inside SA’s 22, the ball was shifted wide, and Donavan Don finished under the sticks. 7–7. Game on.
Reaction from #Blitzboks captain Impi Visser in Cape Town: “When the big moments came, we were ready for it and could handle it, and that was the difference today” – more here: https://t.co/1jXoSyhqhp 🫡#PoweredByUnity pic.twitter.com/thxeuqYCXd

Argentina were up 19–7 early in the second half, and the stadium fell a little quiet. But this is Sevens. Momentum is on-going.
The Blitzboks’ bench brought energy, and debutant Nabo Sokoyi lit up the stadium by stepping past his defender and sprinting 50 metres to close the gap. 19–14. Four minutes left. The crowd was up.
With time running out, the Blitzboks forced a turnover, moved the ball quickly, and Christie Grobbelaar crashed through for the go-ahead try under the poles. 21–19 with half a minute left.
The restart went straight into touch, giving Argentina one last possession. But the Blitzboks defence produced two massive hits, forced a penalty, and Cape Town erupted. Title defended. Unbeaten all weekend.
Earlier in the day, the Blitzboks already had fans on the edge of their seats by beating France 22–17.
From the atmosphere to the rugby to the nail-biting finish, the weekend felt like everything people love about Sevens. Its fast, loud and dramatic.
The Blitzboks walk away as the kings of Cape Town once again.
Cape Town belongs to the #Blitzboks 🏆💚
Thanks for lifting us all weekend – your support made it unforgettable.#HSBCSVNSCPT #PoweredByUnity pic.twitter.com/jRdVzevkXP— Springbok Sevens (@Blitzboks) December 7, 2025
