A clean shirt or a sturdy pair of shoes does more than provide warmth for a man navigating the hardships of homelessness; it serves as a reminder that he is seen, valued, and worthy of a fresh start. The Rea Thusana Foundation needs your help in restoring this dignity for unhoused brothers in need.
Cape Town, South Africa (18 December 2025) – South African shelters are in real need of men’s clothing – and Phinius Sebatsane needs your help.
He’s calling on men and their partners to help clear out gently worn clothing they no longer wear to give to a fellow brother in need.
“My sisters, I need your help. Please take a moment to go through your man’s wardrobe. If there are clothes or shoes he no longer wears because they don’t fit or suit him anymore, consider donating them to a shelter,” said Phinius.
Phinius is the Founder of Rea Thusana Foundation (RTF), a non-profit organisation serving people experiencing homelessness in Muizenberg. The name is borrowed from the Sotho expression for “we help one another”, expressing the heart to focus on giving a hand-up (rather than a handout) to empower and strengthen abused and homeless women and children.
But recently, Phinius has also observed an increase in destitute men needing decent clothing at the shelters he volunteers at.
“Our shelters are in real need of men’s clothing and shoes.”

Phinius is appealing to the greater public to help restore the dignity of those in need by donating items that are in decent, clean and wearable condition.
“If something is torn, badly stained, or worn out, it belongs in the bin, not on another human being. And whatever you give, please make sure it’s clean. What we give says a lot about how we see people,” he says.
He is available to collect clothes in Cape Town and take them to a shelter in Retreat, Kalk Bay or Wynberg.
Most of the unhoused people that RTF refers are supported by The Haven Night Shelter WO Cape Town and U-turn Homeless Ministries, and donated clothing will go directly to these facilities.

“Thank you for helping us restore dignity, not just meet a need of our unhoused brothers,” thanks Phinius in advance.
