KAWS and CX Township Animals received the most generous donation to keep the good work rolling!

Knysna, South Africa (08 March 2026) – When kindness comes on wheels…

The Knysna Animal Welfare Society (KAWS) recently shared that a kind supporter had done an incredible thing to help them reach even more animals in need.

A supporter named Julie Virks purchased an outreach vehicle for the Knysna-based animal welfare organisation and their friends at CX Township Animals to share.

The generous donation is in honour of Julie’s late brother, David Abery, who was a huge animal welfare advocate and loyal supporter of both. A moving (quite literally) way to keep his legacy alive and his love for animals rolling forward.

“A few weeks ago, the wonderful Julie Virks met up with us and the team from CX Township Animals in Need. To carry on the legacy of her late brother, David Abery — who was a huge animal welfare advocate and supporter of both organisations — she purchased an outreach vehicle,” KAWS shared.

KAWS has been caring for animals in the greater Knysna area for over 75 years with its rescues, adoptions, sterilisations, and cruelty investigations. CX Township Animals in Need operates in the Knysna townships, run by passionate volunteers who fit animal welfare around their day jobs. Between the two of them, many animals get helped that otherwise wouldn’t.

Fitted to spec and out in the field, the new ride has already transported 14 dogs to Oscar’s Arc in Cape Town, delivered blood to save a dog’s life, and brought five baby bunnies back from the Mother City. This week it was out collecting animals for sterilisation at George Rex Veterinary Clinic and KAWS.

“We cannot thank you enough for this incredibly generous gift. We cannot wait for it to be used to its full potential. Lucky Knysna. Lucky team. Lucky animals.”

Julie shared that she’s glad the family could do something meaningful.

“David’s family are grateful to be able to support the amazing work by staff and volunteers.”
