A 15-year-old player is recovering after breaking his collarbone during a school match, with a fundraiser launched to help cover medical costs.
South Africa (14 April 2026) – A Gauteng school rugby community is rallying behind one of its own after a serious injury on the field left a young player facing unexpected medical costs.
Fifteen-year-old Jaydan van Oordt suffered a broken collarbone during a recent school rugby fixture between Hoërskool Oos-Moot and Hoërskool Transvalia, played as part of the NWU semi-finals hosted at Hoërskool Transvalia. What started as a competitive afternoon of schoolboy rugby quickly turned into a moment of concern, with the incident captured during a live stream of the match.
In the days since, support has begun pouring in from fellow parents, supporters and the wider school community, all looking to assist where they can. Rugby is more than just a sport for Jaydan, but a passion he has been pursuing from a young age. This setback makes it more difficult for him and his family.
With hospital treatment and a possible operation now required, the financial pressure has added to an already stressful situation. His family has reached out for help, and in response, parents and community members have taken it upon themselves to share his story across platforms, hoping to ease the burden and get him the care he needs.
There’s a strong sense of community behind the effort. Every contribution, no matter the size, can make a meaningful difference in helping Jaydan recover and eventually return to doing what he loves most.
Those who would like to assist are encouraged to follow the crowdfunding link to donate or share, here.
