In a true labour of love, Jaco and Vanessa Fourie blended their professional skills with their passion for animals to turn a dull space into the cosiest cat room for CLAW.

Johannesburg, South Africa (16 April 2026) – A few furry felines are about to enjoy the best naps and snuggles of their lives, thanks to the kindness of Vanessa and Jaco Fourie. This dedicated husband-and-wife duo recently chose to give back to Community Led Animal Welfare (CLAW) in the cosiest way imaginable: by designing and building a brand-new cat room from scratch.

“There was a lot of preparation work involved as they had to strip old tiles and window panes, along with making the room clean, secure and free from hazards,” CLAW explained.

But the Fouris were up for the task, working their magic from the not-so-fun prep work to breathing a new and vibrant life into the space to create comfortable sleep space, play shelves and scratch columns.

An area that was previously drab and unsuitable has now been renovated to be cheerful and fun!

“The structures were all built by Jaco, and soft furnishings were made by Vanessa.  A massive thank you to Vanessa and Jaco for doing this for our cats, we are so grateful,” CLAW said.

Their act of kindness has been just as appreciated by the online community, who have showered the wife and husband duo with love.

“We need more people like this in the world. People who go out there and make a difference. Who don’t sit back and wait for others to do it. Thank you, Jaco and Vanessa,” one supporter commented.

CLAW works to provide desperately needed veterinary services to dogs and cats, as well as vital animal care education to pet owners in Johannesburg’s poorest township areas. Through their hard work and generosity, Vanessa and Jaco have provided more than just a renovation; they’ve provided a bridge to a better life. As these cats wait for their forever homes, they now have a beautiful, dignified space to play and rest.
