Over 400 South Africans will be travelling to Croatia for the DanceStar world finals, 11 of them are from a small dance school for youth in Cape Town

We first shared a story about the DanceStar finals when we received news of a young lady in Cape Town that had been invited to join the other 400 South African dancers. They will cross the globe to attend the world finals. The South Africa team will be special guests at the opening ceremony of the DanceStar finals.

The group of 11 young dancers from Cape Town have all qualified to attend the finals. They relied on multiple fund raising initiatives that helped to get them everything they needed to travel internationally to Croatia.

“This has been a dream which through passion, hard work and commitment has become a reality.”

“Without the support of our communities, parents and Cape Town at large we would not have been able to make this dream a reality.” – Jodie Jackson Dance Centre

The area’s surrounding the dance school are not always the safest so it is great for the community of Lotus River to have a safe place for the youth to go and be active.

“Dancing offers the children a safe space in these vulnerable communities of Cape Town to express themselves through the various dance styles but gives them hope for a bright future.”

They will be competing in genres including Contemporary Modern as well as Urban Styles (Hip Hop) with 5 groups and 4 soloists in total.
