Storms 3 Clifton Lifeguards

Proving that their duty to protect doesn’t end where the sand meets the sea, three heroes who recently came across a motor vehicle accident once again showed us that a lifeguard’s heart is always on call.

Robertson, South Africa (29 April 2026) – If there is one thing our local lifeguards will be sure to do, it is to live up to the title of their profession: to guard lives. Whether it be by the shore, in turbulent waters or just about anywhere else a life might be at threat, their commitment doesn’t clock out.

Earlier this month, three Clifton Lifeguards, Jordan Roman, Casey Bruwer, and Garth Bruwer, had been driving home after the SA National Lifesaving Championships in Gqeberha, when they came across a motor vehicle accident just outside of Robertson.

According to the Clifton Surf Lifesaving Club, the trio didn’t hesitate. Recognising the severity of the crash and the urgent need for medical help, they immediately jumped into action.

Four casualties had been found at the scene with varying injuries, including shock, lacerations, and possible spinal trauma.

“Utilising their First Aid knowledge, and their own first aid kit, the lifeguards along with a doctor (who arrived later on scene, also passing by), stabilised all four patients and stayed with them until paramedics arrived to take control of the emergency situation,” the Club confirmed.

Once stabilised, all patients were transported to the nearest hospital, where they received further treatment they required.

“This incident highlights that accidents can happen anywhere and at any time. First Aid is a life skill that can be applied anywhere, anytime to save a life.”

In a moment where every second counted, Jordan, Casey and Garth’s split-second decision to pull over and step forward transformed a roadside tragedy into a powerful display of skill, courage, and selfless initiative.

The Club thanked and commended its members’ calm, effective response and overall preparedness, which ensured the patients were able to receive the care that they needed. Sincere appreciation is also extended to the lifeguards, the doctor, members of the public, and paramedics for their collective efforts.
