PACT Launches Massive Adoption Campaign to Help Rescue Dogs Find Loving Homes

Some of the sweetest furbabies have been waiting for years at PACT’s kennels. The animal welfare is now inviting the public to open their hearts and change a rescue dog’s life at their massive Adoption Day happening in Durban this Saturday.

Phoenix, South Africa (10 June 2026) – In the lively and diverse neighbourhood of Phoenix, Durban, dedicated animal welfare warriors are working overtime with very few resources to combat animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment.

Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment (PACT) began as a mission focused solely on sterilisations. However, the non-profit organisation has since expanded its services to meet the needs of the community’s voiceless and most vulnerable. Since 2012, PACT has successfully rescued, rehabilitated, sterilised, and rehomed over 60,000 animals.

Despite this commendable work, the team behind this vital lifeline now finds itself in a position where it can no longer take on new cases because its shelters and foster homes are completely full.

“PACT is unable to rescue more dogs until the dogs at kennels are homed,” shares PACT volunteer, Thashnee Moodley.

To address this predicament, they are now embarking on a huge adoption campaign starting with an Adoption Day event at the Northwood Crusaders Sports Club in Durban North on Saturday, 13 June, to showcase their dogs that are up for adoption.

“Some of these dogs have been in kennels for over six years and are in need of a chance to be seen by the community,” explains Thashnee, who is certain people find it impossible not to fall in love with them after meeting and getting to know them.

PACT also holds Beach Walks on the third Saturday of every month at the Umhlanga Promenade, Durban View Park, from 7 am to 10 am, aimed at taking rotated groups of the dogs out, giving them a chance to be seen by the public and raising awareness of adoptions.

“These rescue dogs have attended countless adoption events over the years without any success. They are incredible in every way, and it is never understood why. The saddest moment after every event is having to drop them back off at kennels, knowing that once again, they do not have any prospective applications for adoption.”

Thashnee and the rest of the volunteers are hopeful that this upcoming Adoption Day will allow these deserving dogs to find the families they have been patiently waiting for.

“If you’re looking to adopt, or just give love to these dogs, then this is the place to be! You are guaranteed to fall in love with one, or more, of these precious furbabies.”

PACT encourages the community to come forward and foster or adopt. If you’re unable to foster or adopt, you are still invited to support a worthy cause and to be part of the solution. Volunteers are also often required for assistance with adoption events and fundraisers.

All the rescue dogs are fully vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and sterilised, and PACT wants people to know that by adopting one dog, they save two lives as it enables the team to save another dog on the street.
