Through early childhood development, education, psychosocial support, recovery coaching and skills training, HandsandFeet has strengthened countless families in the communities of Cape Town over the past 10 years, helping them move towards stable livelihoods.

Cape Town, South Africa (11 June 2026) – Back in 2015, a heartfelt vision took root: to support and strengthen families so that children could grow up safe and loved at home. That vision became the heartbeat of HandsandFeet NPO.

Today, the team that keeps this organisation moving forward with impact is so proud to celebrate 10 years of walking hand-in-hand with families and building lasting hope through Hope Centre, ECD Centre and community programmes.

“We wanted to find community-based solutions that help families stay together,” shared one of the Founders, Tessa Gardener.

“We also wanted to live out our faith in a practical way.”

Hope Centre started in partnership with HOSA NPO, with just six children and their families, in an early childhood development and family strengthening programme. It has grown into a thriving centre supporting over 149 children, 262 adults and 215 families, with a dedicated team and long-term volunteers.

“This is a story of partnership, collaboration, and building together. God has grown resilience and perseverance in all of us,” Tessa said.

HandsandFeet works closely with informal housing communities in Strandfontein, Mitchell’s Plain, including 7de Laan, Plot 9, Oppermans Oord, Masincedane, and surrounding areas.

“It is a privilege to work with communities who show so much courage and resilience in the face of ongoing challenges,” Tessa shared.

Over the years, the organisation has developed a holistic approach that focuses on prevention, early intervention, and ongoing support for families. Their work includes early childhood development, education, psychosocial support, recovery coaching, skills training, and helping families move towards stable livelihoods.

“We have seen so many lives change. Homes filled with more peace and love, families growing stronger, and people finding freedom from drugs, gangs, and crime,” Tessa said.

The journey has not been without challenges.

“When you walk closely with people through difficult circumstances, there are always crises. But we have learned to adapt, to support one another, and to keep going,” she reflected.

A key part of HandsandFeet’s impact has been strong partnerships with local communities, government departments, other organisations, and donors.

“What is happening here is bigger than any one person or organisation,” Tessa said.

“We are building something together.”

Looking ahead, the organisation is focusing on supporting sustainable livelihoods, deepening family support, and equipping other organisations to do similar work.

“We are still building, and we would love more people to be part of that journey,” Tessa added.

As HandsandFeet celebrates this milestone, they invite individuals to partner with them through ongoing support.

“Any amount counts. Together, we can continue to build hope and see real change.”
