After a successful neighbourhood clean-up, Better Kensington and its volunteers have turned their attention to restoring Rhodes Park, with even bigger projects on the horizon.
Johannesburg, South Africa (02 July 2026) – The momentum behind Kensington’s community clean-up campaign continues to grow, with volunteers now turning their attention to restoring one of the suburb’s much-loved green spaces.
Following last week’s successful clean-up, Better Kensington says the impact of the initiative goes far beyond what can be seen in photographs. Working alongside the Grade 8 learners from Jeppe High School for Boys, volunteers transformed several neglected areas, including parts of Rhodes Park and Bailey Park on Marshall Street.
The organisation shared before-and-after images of the work completed, saying they only tell part of the story.
“The impact of last week’s clean-up simply can’t be captured in the photos. It was a true joint effort with the Jeppe boys Grade 8s, and the difference everyone made was immense—we’re incredibly proud of what was achieved together!”
Rather than slowing down after the successful campaign, the team has kept the momentum going by dedicating the past few days to Rhodes Park.
Volunteers have been clearing debris, removing fallen trees and preparing the area for even bigger restoration projects aimed at preserving one of Kensington’s most treasured public spaces.
The organisation hopes to continue expanding its clean-up efforts across the suburb by increasing the number of volunteers and work teams, with the goal of reaching every corner of Kensington.
