Connection, companionship, and the simple act of showing up were the order of the day as a local pastor and the passionate volunteers of the Robin Hood Foundation visited the Embo community to spoil and connect with its beloved seniors.

KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (06 July 2026) – Our elders deserve all the love and care they can get, and the Robin Hood Foundation team welcomed the new month with that beautiful sentiment at heart.

Together with Pastor Leonard of Power of God Community Church, the Foundation spent a meaningful day with the wonderful elders of Embo near Hillcrest.

A true pillar of his community, he not only leads the local church but also runs a crèche and an orphanage and plays an active role at Philikade Rest Home. His life is dedicated to serving others, and his impact is felt far and wide.

Once a month, he brings together around 55 vulnerable elders for a special morning of connection, community, song, dance, laughter, and a shared meal – a beautiful reminder that no one should grow old feeling forgotten or alone.

This month, the Robin Hood Foundation was honoured to be part of this special initiative, adding an extra touch of warmth and care to the morning.

“We were honoured to add a little extra love to the day by gifting each elder a Gogo Bag filled with pre-loved clothing and linen, a bag of maize, and a warm blanket, beanie, and pair of gloves generously donated through the Dis-Chem Blanket Drive,” the organisation said.

The room was filled with smiles, singing, conversation, and gratitude. Such moments beautifully capture how, while donations bring comfort, it is often the connection, companionship, and simple act of showing up that mean the most.

“We could not have asked for a more meaningful way to begin Mandela Month. Thank you, Pastor Leonard, for the extraordinary work you do and for allowing us to share in such a joyful morning,” the team of volunteers said.

As Mandela Month begins, this wholesome day of remembering and connecting with those who walked the path before us offers a touching reminder that love, kindness, and service to others remain some of the greatest gifts any of us can give.
