The family has received critical supplies and a wheelchair, while the organisation continues collecting furniture and household essentials.

Johannesburg, South Africa (25 August 2026) – A family in Randburg is starting to see a change in their circumstances after an appeal for help from People4Purpose NPO sparked an outpouring of support.

The organisation has shared an update on S and her three daughters, whose difficult living conditions were highlighted in an earlier appeal for assistance. The family had been living in a single room with very little, while S, who uses a wheelchair, was struggling with mobility, food insecurity and mounting financial pressure.

Since the appeal, some much-needed support has already reached the family.

The three girls were able to take lunch boxes to school, while critical supplies have also been delivered.

There has been positive news for their mother too. S has received a wheelchair, although it is slightly too large, with a more suitable wheelchair now being arranged. The current wheelchair has nevertheless allowed her to move around the house again, bringing some much-needed independence.

People4Purpose has also begun collecting furniture, beds and other household essentials to help the family create a more comfortable home.

There is still plenty to be done, however, and the organisation is asking the community to help with two immediate priorities: R2,500 in outstanding school fees and R3,000 in rent.

The original appeal highlighted just how difficult life had become for the family, with S sleeping on the floor with her daughters and struggling to afford food and basic necessities. Her wheelchair was also no longer functional, leaving her largely unable to move around.

For People4Purpose, the latest support shows what can happen when a community chooses to step in.

“We’d really like to help Mom with arrear school fees of R2,500 and rent of R3,000,” the organisation said in its update.

Those who would like to help towards the outstanding rent and school fees can make a contribution to:
