After years of pouring his heart into the Wentworth community, Taariq Stokes has received an unexpected blessing of his own.

Wentworth, South Africa (25 August 2026) – Taariq Stokes is a familiar name on Good Things Guy, known for championing worthy causes, running for mental health, encouraging children to be active and advocating for the health of Wentworth’s elderly.

For the past two years, he has poured himself into his community, giving back in any and every way he could.

He admits that there have been times when he spent all his money on initiatives, drove around with little to no petrol while trying to secure sponsorships, and even neglected his responsibilities at home.

“I put the community before my health, my business and my family life. I did it with a smile, without asking for anything in return. I did it because God had ordered me to do it. It was His will,” Taariq shared.

But last week, Taariq received an unexpected call that, to his surprise, poured back into his cup.

The call was from Aunty Jenny Gomes at the local Victim Friendly Centre.

“I know Aunty Jenny personally, so I assumed she probably needed me to do some community work or something,” Taariq recalled.

However, when he arrived at the Centre, Jenny wasn’t waiting to ask him for a favour, but to bestow one upon him.

“She told me that God had put it on her heart to bless me with all this brand-new equipment for my gym. A wave of emotion came over me, and my first reply was, ‘No thanks, Aunty Jenny. I can’t take it. Why are you blessing me for free?’”

Her response was simple: because Taariq had been a blessing to the community of Wentworth, he too deserved to be blessed.

Taariq was deeply moved and humbled.

“I hugged her so tight. In fact, I hugged all the ladies and thanked them for their selfless gesture. Little did they know that I had been feeling so low and wanted to give up.”

The generous gift reminded Taariq that there are indeed people out there who recognise his efforts, see his value, believe in him, and cherish and love him for who he is.

With a heart filled with gratitude, Taariq thanked the women of Wentworth for their support and generosity.

The moral of his touching story? To never do things for recognition or to receive something in return, but because you genuinely want to help others. Because kindness given freely often finds its way back when it is needed most.
