The Humanity Hub in Woodstock, a space where Souper Troopers has supported hundreds of people on their journey out of homelessness, is now up for sale, and the charity urgently needs help securing it.
Cape Town, South Africa (27 September 2026) – A Cape Town charity that has long empowered hundreds of people to rebuild their lives and transition off the streets now finds itself in urgent need of support.
Souper Troopers could soon lose the premises from which it provides support and helps people regain independence. The building that houses The Humanity Hub service centre (the double-storey building where the non-profit has been operating its primary service centre since 2022) at 66 Newmarket Street in Woodstock is now up for sale.
Souper Troopers has been given the opportunity to make a counter-offer to purchase the property as its permanent home, but needs to raise R6 million urgently, and the offer expires early next week.
“We urgently need to raise R6 million to secure our Humanity Hub, the space that has supported hundreds of people on their journey out of homelessness since 2022,” says Souper Troopers Founder, Kerry Hoffman.
This space offers meals and essentials, counselling, skills development, employment opportunities and the wider support offered through the Hub. Losing the Hub would not only disrupt these important services, which have helped over 65% transition into full-time employment, but leave many without the primary safe, community space they have long depended on.
Kerry has shared that the threat of an interruption to their services to Troopers and the homeless community at large is real, disruptive and traumatic, making people who have worked so hard to transform their lives and achieve stability feel like they are becoming homeless again.
The organisation receives no government or municipal funding and is entirely reliant on public support and income generated through its own job upliftment programme.
In a stressful race against time, Kerry and the team are now appealing directly to individuals, businesses, foundations, and community members to assist with contributions or potential corporate partnerships.
